I’d been in Sri Lanka once before. More specifically in Mirissa (where this photograph is taken). That time around I hadn’t seen this spot. As I was planning for my return trip, scrolling through Instagram I found an image of this place. And I saw it was location tagged in Mirissa. I wondered and wondered where this spot could be located. I decided to write to the photographer of the image that I had found on Instagram and he was kind enough to share the directions. He told me to go past the main beach, to the… Read the full story on my website https://ollivves.com/stories/

Text From - Sanath Weerasuriya "The Southern coast of Sri Lanka especially Tangalle though far less visited as a tourist destination is even more beautiful in its own inimitable way. Situated between the Coastal towns of Matara and Ambalantota, Tangalle Bay Hotel with unique architecture, is the only hotel in Sri Lanka, built in a shape of a cruise ship Surrounded by the ocean from three sides its looks a ship carrying four decks of cabins and a front deck." unfortunately this has been abandoned due to political and ownership issues. this was done by architect Valentine Gunasekara.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage as the name suggests is home to almost 100 elephants. Around two every afternoon the elephants are brought to the river “Ma Oya” for a bath. It is quite a sight to see all these beautiful animals frolicking in the river. The photo was taken in July 2018 on our latest trip to Sri Lanka. If you love elephants and want to experience them up close, visit Sri Lanka.

Travelling with your partner can have its ups and downs, and sometimes it can be tough to get a lot of lovely shots together! I love this image of us together; I set it up using manual adjustments on the camera, and a stranger kindly pointed and shot for me as we looked out to the famous Sigiriya Rock in Sri Lanka because I only have a small gorilla tripod. This is definitely an up moment, I loved just gazing together with my partner out at Sigiriya after hiking and scrambling to the top of nearby Pindurangala Rock.

I called this "Nature protector ghost mist tree" I catch this from near the Horton Plains National Park. This environment is so cool, calm and so beautiful. Sri Lanka's one of the most beautiful places I ever have seen this place. This forest is like cinematic. The wonder of Asia. Love this place.

As we drove through the tiny Delft Island in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province we went past this dried up lake bed. As soon as I saw it I asked our tuktuk driver to pull over, I could see an epic photo and wanted to see if I could make it work! I asked my partner to be my model and walk into the desert-scape and love the outcome with the small cluster of Palmyra Palms in the left of the composition. I love the contrast of the very white sandy lake bed. Quite the opposite of typical Sri Lanka imagery!
